Since 1955 the RBSLSC has provided a surf lifesaving facility and staff at Riversdale Beach. In that time, no one has drowned between the flags, a proud record covering 65 years of service. The club also provides hundreds of first aid assists each year for a range of beach related and everyday situations that arise in and around the coast and community. We are also the local search and rescue base for the area. Fire rescue New Zealand utilize our premises as their base and with Wellington Free Ambulance we have a community partnership on responding to local emergencies.
Our new clubhouse was built in 2016 in partnership with the Masterton District Council. We provide an excellent base to the community covering much needed requirements including;
A dedicated first aid facility that is able to be accessed 24/7, offers support, triage and medical equipment (AED, CPR, 1st response kits, spinal boards). To those in the wider community, of Castlepoint, Tinui, Homewood, Uriti, this gives residents a facility they can go to in an emergency. With double access doors at ground level, it provides much needed first aid support to all residents and visitors to Riversdale Beach. With the closest ambulance service 45 min away in Masterton, we offer life-saving options and highly trained staff to care for patients.
The new public toilets offer a disabled toilet, benched changing rooms and outdoor showers.
We have an IRB prepped year round , ready to go, if a rescue is called upon.
Our upstairs is open plan, allowing a large classroom size area for training and workshop groups of the club members. This area is used for training sessions with the local community, covering AED operation, CPR training, beach education etc.
